Always try to make sure that the patterns you mix are of different scales. One pattern should be larger than the other, for instance wide stripes with a microprint floral, a small plaid pattern with a large floral print or a wider stripe with a small polka dot or even a skinny stripe with a wide stripe.
If you are mixing prints that are the same scale- make sure they are within the same color family.
Make sure the patterns and colors you are mixing are different enough to create contrast and visual depth. Another rule of thumb- animal print can act as a neutral- mix with stripes, polka, dots or virtually any color.
But it can look amazing if done correctly!
So mix it up!!!

Mixing pattern is so tricky.. Most of the times it only works for a few people.. I personally don't think I can pull that trend.. Lol
ReplyDeletePs: I've followed you dear since the first time, but I don't know how it's gone. But I'm following you (again) now.. Just let me know if there's something wrong again :)

ReplyDeleteWonderful photos :) I love those patterns :D Especially flowered pants!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you posted about this. I'm always too scared to really ever mix patterns (which you may have noticed on the blog). For me, it's always plain top, pattern bottom or vice versa. This pics have inspired to be more adventurous and have a go. being a person who loves colour, I am going wild for all these pics. I'm following and looking forward to seeing some more inspiring posts!

I love mixed patterns...definitely used to be taboo though, so I need to buy some patterned stuff again so that I have something to mix! I'm a huge fan of dots/plaid or dots/floral or floral/stripes...classic patterns mixed with other classic patterns is always elegant.

I loveeee this look so much!! the outfit with the rose blazer and the polka-dot skirt is so cute!

The mix is really a complex art, but I think if you have good taste and good judgment, the result might be the best! This post is belo, just because it "teaches" this risk but with judgment!
ReplyDeleteIf you like, you also goes to me, there is a new post!
