The mixing of patterns is very on trends; mixing stripes with other patterns or polka dots with a leopard print … but is always tricky. You can easily go from chic to a complete mess.
Always try to make sure that the patterns you mix are of different scales. One pattern should be larger than the other, for instance wide stripes with a microprint floral, a small plaid pattern with a large floral print or a wider stripe with a small polka dot or even a skinny stripe with a wide stripe.
If you are mixing prints that are the same scale- make sure they are within the same color family.
Make sure the patterns and colors you are mixing are different enough to create contrast and visual depth. Another rule of thumb- animal print can act as a neutral- mix with stripes, polka, dots or virtually any color.
But it can look amazing if done correctly!
So mix it up!!!
